THERAPEUTIC BEAUTY

QUINTENNIAL

Our title is important when it comes to the definition of our role at work. A definition that doesn't define me, nor have I used it as an enTITLEment. An example of this was a few years ago when I was looking into ordering a new name badge for myself and "Skin Specialist" was suggested as a shorter version of "Skin & Beauty Manager". This was indeed a great compliment, however I had to disagree as a specialist is that of a dermatologist which is beyond my capabilities. We agreed on "Skin Expert", Cosmetician-as another option. King is my first name, most definitely not my title. Some people address me as "Mr King", I think that is really cute.

KING BY NAME, NOT BY NATURE, BUT WITH

More on my name can be found in my blog 'ANNUAL ARTY-FACT RE-ENACT' .

"Those Expensive Ones, You're Just Paying For The Name"

In reference to beauty products, this may or may not be the case. I would need time, more than Google alone, to be able to answer that statement. That isn't always the case and higher concentrations of skincare require guidance ongoing, not just at the point of the sale. I remind myself that something brought this person in to see me to ask this question, I can work with that.

Traditional pharmacy beauty is synonymous with impulse buying and catalogue specials whilst you are waiting for your script item to be dispensed. Why would you go to a pharmacy if you weren't sick or injured? The answer, hire me and I will create a business plan for you. Then there is the world of Corporate Pharmacy with built in cosmetic counters, my world for this quinquennial period.

Maintaining the requirements in order to successfully run cosmetic counters such as Estee Lauder, Clinique and Ultraceuticals (with a dedicated Beauty Therapist) is more than most pharmacies can facilitate. This worked well for me as I have worked directly for these wonderful accounts in the past, with the support of amazing Pharmacy Assistants and Naturopaths at Gaslight. In turn I discovered the amazing results that our customers could achieve with using the correct supplements to accelerate the results that they wanted to achieve with their skin. Personally, I now have less flare ups from my eczema and I am a huge advocate for bio-available collagen powder. I have read the clinical trials extensively, as I do with skincare trials. The fine print is my friend.

Soothes & Protects
Dr Hauschka Aus

MORE OR LESS?
A customer asked me if there was a product for the bathroom that contains Lavender to help them to de-stress. Key word there was Lavender.
I presented the Dr Hauschka Moor Lavender Calming Bath Essence and I asked if they had a bath. They said no. That's fine as this can be used diluted with their Organic Face Compress. Using it in the bath is good, but this process is like wrapping the bath around your face and neck, next level calming and hydration.

They asked me to compare this to a shower gel for $10, three times the size. I was happy to have a look. I won't say the brand, this process is more important, but there was no lavender in the ingredients. "Fragrance" will not work on your olfactory senses as aromatherapy.

LEE HOLMES-
CLINICAL NUTRITIONIST

WELL, WELL, WELL!
'Wellness' is the title of a free magazine, TV and radio show, owned by a big discount pharmacy chain in Australia. You won't find a Nutritionist or a Naturopath in their pharmacies for a consultation, does that matter? Just read the label? Basically that is the case.
Lee Holmes lives it, she is in all other stores, caring, with her products, they are what you need....for real.

Currently there aren't any regulations or restrictions on the use of the word 'Aromatherapy' or 'Wellness'. Technically in this case, what you don't know won't hurt you or heal you in some cases.

If Lee Holmes or myself are around, with at least 30 years combined experience in our respective fields, yet we are both still passionate about learning more; then it is safe to say that you are in good hands.

I am grateful for the opportunity to have helped numerous local charities on behalf of Gaslight Pharmacy. With each charity, I wanted to do more than collecting money alone. I supported them through social media, through Gaslight Pharmacy and KMR Beaute. As well as training our team members on what it is that these amazing adults and kids are doing within our community. Doing good feels good, inclusion is everything!
