I wonder what Coles and Woolworths supermarkets think of Aldi's growth? You can't compare Aldi to the big two I guess?

Competitition between businesses makes them work harder for your hard earned cash and future expansion plans hopefully = future jobs for the local community in food production, distribution as well as supermarket operations. Perhaps Aldi supermarkets should cap it to 60% of Aldi's own brands sold in each supermarket and 40% finished food items and manufactured products to be bought from local suppliers? As customers, it's good to have options.

An imported business, selling imported products which in turn exports our money overseas = short term gain for the local community, and perhaps long term pain if the novelty wears off and a business has to downsize or, worse still, close stores.

One example might be Krispy Kreme. We couldn't get enough of their rapidly growing menu of donut deliciousness until enough actually became enough. No scandal or dramatic chain of events occured to curb our Krispy enthusiasm. What was once a part of our regular shopping experience, shifted towards a "trendy chore."

Sure the donuts weren't imported, but the Krispy Kreme hype was. Product hype can be fast, fun and it can give you exactly what you want. Giving customers what they need and incorporating that within the business's future growth is a lot slower, but it is oh so important.
