Raze To A Higher Level

There are people who support exfoliating the skin and those who are against it, mostly due to it's alleged destruction of the cellular bonds and possible telomere reduction of the skins DNA. This is the debate of glycolic peels and enzymatic exfoliants. I am here (for now) to write about the surface exfoliation that deals with dry patchy skin, ingrown hairs or excessive oil production.

Scrubs for your face or body can range in ingredients from sugar to salt to grounded nuts to micro beads. Micro beads are not bio-degradable, so I would stay away from those.

After many years of trial and error, I have come across two of my current must haves. Cellular Skin Rx Adzuki Grain Powder is made from finely ground adzuki beans for the face. They slightly soften when added to your favourite cleanser and they are gentle enough to use on a daily basis for both women and men. This in itself is saving you money as you do not need to buy a seperate face scrub to your cleanser. You only need to sprinkle the size of a pea into your hand and blend it 50/50 with your cleanser. You control how much you want to exfoliate your skin by blending it yourself. You can now cleanse and exfoliate effectively in one simple step.

A great solution for your body is the Aromatherapy Associates Natural Exfoliating Grains. They are made from finely ground olive pits. They are a more coarse than the adzuki beans, although not as coarse as a salt or sugar scrub. I would recommend to use them once or twice a week by blending them in your hand with your shower gel, soap or body lotion if your skin is quite dry. In that case you can use a slightly moist towel to remove any residue. They are perfect for use before applying a tanning lotion or a week after a hair removal treatment to prevent ingrown hairs.
