THE SUPERLATIVE SPA

I had crossed the halfway point, from Home to Spa, when I received confirmation that my friend had passed away. The shocking news stopped me in my tracks. My mind went foggy, I felt numb. Should I go home and once again re-schedule my booking? No, that didn't feel right to me. I walked on.

As a Cosmetician in retail beauty, I am privy to the advances in prestige, masstige and therapeutic skincare to meet my clients needs. Sol Spa's Treatment Menu is very impressive and a facial would have been amazing, but what did I really need?

AN EXPERIENCE

In 1992, I was in Europe living with my relatives who often spoke of the health benefits of natural health retreats that centered around the natural thermal spa's and rejuvenating hydrotherapy. But more from the viewpoint of the therapeutic benefits that they have experienced rather than perhaps a holiday location.

Currently I work with retail beauty brands as well as the dermo-cosmetics brand Eau Thermale Avène which originates from the town of Avène who's natural spring carries with it the minerals that soothe and treat skin conditions locally and globally through their range of products.

Back in 2014, I worked briefly as a consultant for the launch of a new spa in town. I blogged about the former Espavita when I experienced first hand the difference that a spa has to offer those of us who dwell in the urban jungle.

HEAD, HEART, SOL SPA

I walked into Sol Spa with a heavy head, figuratively and physically it felt. We walked to a change room where I was presented with a fresh robe and slippers for me to change into. This felt like it was a ceremonial shedding of my skin as I placed my clothes, my watch, my mobile and what felt like the outside world, into a locker. I walked into an elegantly furnished relaxation lounge to sit and sip my tea. 

I need a full body massage as I work on my feet during the week at a fast pace. Its definitely been a few years since I last had a massage. Life just gets in the way. Their professional masseuse walked me into the treatment room which featured curtains draped from ceiling to floor, all encompassing, all comforting.  

In time I put on my robe and I made my way back into the comfortable lounge area. My time at SOL SPA was physically as much as it was mentally therapeutic for me. I wasn't in a rush to leave, I felt truly relaxed. I lost track of time and for once, that was perfectly fine. This is definitely more than just a beauty service, this is an experience.
